Fasting is a powerful, God-given tool that will help you strengthen and activate your faith! It’s also a discipline; when you fast, you’ll be amazed at the insight you’ll receive into the promises and the purpose that God has for you.

During this 12-day period of extended times in prayer and fasting, let’s press into God for refreshing in the new year that will revitalize us as individuals—and collectively launch us boldly into The Next Chapter of our ministry. This service will be a time of worship, celebration and an opportunity for you to be personally prayed for by our pastors and prayer leaders through “The Laying on of Hands,” a biblical phrase that describes a practice Jesus and the apostles used to help people. During this time of personal ministry, we are believing God for life-transforming breakthroughs and a unique blessing.

Why Fast?

Engaging in the spiritual discipline of fasting—the abstaining from food for spiritual purposes—can produce some remarkable results. Some of these proven time-tested benefits of fasting are:

  • Deeper intimacy with God

  • Increased sensitivity to God’s voice

  • Supernatural guidance/answers

  • Power in prayer

  • Divine direction in fulfilling your God-given purpose

  • Fresh anointing to overcome challenges

  • Creation of an environment for miracles and breakthroughs

  • Breaking bonds of wickedness and destroying spiritual yokes

  • Miraculous occurrences of healing, deliverance and the salvation of loved ones

Fasting Tips

The following are some invaluable tips that will make your time of fasting more enjoyable and fulfilling:

  • Inform household members that you will be fasting to prevent misunderstanding.

  • If you have health-related problems and take prescription medications, consult your physician before the fast.

  • Prepare spiritually through personal consecration, repentance and forgiving others.

  • Don’t binge eat before the fast. Instead, wean yourself from caffeine and sugars, eat light meals and drink plenty of water.

  • Be specific about why you’re fasting. Decide on your prayer goals and have clearly in mind what you hope to gain through fasting.

  • Expect hunger pains and mild discomfort such as headaches and irritability (due to withdrawal from caffeine and sugars) during the fast.

  • Limit physical activity, and if desired, only exercise moderately during the fast.

  • Replace eating times with increased times of prayer and Bible study.

  • Do not overeat when the time comes to end your fast.

  • If you don’t receive answers to your time of prayer and fasting, do not be discouraged. Ask God for clarity and wait for His answer!

How Can I Pray Effectively for Refreshing in 2023?
